Water Treatment Plant Tour Request

Due to rising COVID-19 cases in Iowa, public tours of our facilities have been suspended indefinitely to protect the health of our community and employees.  Des Moines Water Works will continue to monitor the most current public health information and will continually re-evaluate the decision to suspend tours.

Requests submitted during this time will be considered when our facilities re-open for public tours.

We no longer offer water treatment plant tours for school-aged children. In replacement, we have produced water treatment process and water quality videos that you may use in your curriculum.

Water treatment plant tours are available for adult groups with a minimum of 10 participants (college, business and/or civic organizations) during the hours of 8:00 am-4:00 pm, Monday-Thursday and 8:00 am-Noon on Friday. If you would like to schedule a tour for your college class, company or organization, please fill out the form below.

Please Note:

  • Your safety is our priority. The tour involves walking in a plant environment and outside conditions. Comfortable walking shoes and appropriate clothing for both indoors and outdoors are required.
  • Participants must park outside the security gate in Water Works Park and walk into the security gate. Each participant must show photo identification to the security guard.
  • No photography or video is allowed inside the treatment plant.
